Sonar: A Shazam For People
Whether it’s a conference, a casual happy hour or meetup, some of us are in our element working a room full of strangers, while others find the mere idea utterly paralyzing. If only we knew a little bit about who was in the room, before we walked in… well, there’s an app for that.
Enter Sonar (currently available for iPhone).
What makes this a little different to other check-in apps is that it enables viewing of degrees of separation and encourages introduction and conversation.
From Twitter to Foursquare comments, the back channel conversation these apps encourage is increasingly where the value comes in for attendees. Seeing through walls, so to speak, is another benefit especially when you’re interested in connecting with particular people in one room, or avoiding others elsewhere.
