Google introduces search by image. Basically this is a reverse lookup for images. Don’t know an image’s source? Find out using search by image. This is basically tineye, but powered by Google, which should make it much more robust.
This is excellent news.

We need to start thinking of the “where” instead of the “who”.
Google Adds Quora to Realtime Search
Just when I thought most people had stopped using Quora so much, MarketingVox reports Google will start indexing many more “real time” services into its SERPs. Could this pull people back into using the service with the voracity they did a few months ago?
Google Realtime Search is indexing Quora content, Quora notes in a blog post - along with activity from Gowalla, Google Buzz, Plixi, Me2day, Twitgoo, and possibly others. The site realized Google had added it to its Realtime search when search results for Quora spiked, it said.
Google’s Commerce Search for Retailers
Google updated its Commerce Search platform, which is used by retailers on their own e-commerce websites, on March 29 to include interactive features such as instant results and in-store product availability.
Direct Marketing News, interviews the search giant on how the product works for shoppers and retailers:
“If you’re looking at a camera, we can show photos of cameras that are like that camera, and we can tell you which camera people ultimately bought,” said Mangtani. “But then the merchandisers can say, ‘I want to upsell this particular model of the camera, create that business rule, and insert that product in the related products, as well.”
Part of Why We Like “Like”
Great read over at Mashable on the Future of Social Search. We do a lot to ensure a campaign is optimized (hypertext is planned, content tagged etc efficiently) so it may be findable. We also do a lot to ensure the products and sites we build market themselves — that if they’re compelling and valuable to the user, they will want to share it, and we facilitate the ease of sharing via the most seamless sharing and syndication tools.
It’s usually the social media and UEX leads making sure there are “Like” buttons on pages and this post does a great job to highlight why and how those Likes influence what searchers see.
Which retailers are leveraging the marketing power of Facebook?
via Hitwise:
12% of all visits immediately after visiting Facebook go straight to Google, which would indicate that people have seen something on Facebook which they like, and they want to research that product or brand further through search. Using Search Sequence we can see what people were searching for online immediately after they visited Facebook to capture the data not just from Google, but from Bing and Yahoo! Search as well.
Bing to the Rescue of Inboxes Everywhere
A new search product called “Bing deals,” gives consumers access to more than 200,000 offers for daily and local deals, gift certificates and similar discounts all across the United States. Offers include online vouchers from such daily-deal companies as Groupon, LivingSocial and Restaurant.com.

Social Boosts Search CTRs
GroupM and comScore looked at consumer behavior associated with purchase decisions in the electronics/telecommunications and consumer packaged goods categories. They found that while search dominates social media among consumers making buying decisions — nearly 60 percent of cases that end in a purchase begin with search – social media play an increasingly important role during consideration and especially after a purchase is made.
